Hauliers Prestons of Potto shift into top gear
Haulage firm Prestons of Potto has helped launch a new venture which it says could revolutionise the haulage industry.
The privately-owned company, one of the largest hauliers in the North with a huge base on Teesside, has joined forces with four similar businesses under the new brand Harlequin Logistics.
The new business will target manufacturers and retailers with a substantial UK transport spend. It aims to win the type of huge national contracts which historically have been accessible only to big corporations.
Prestons will be joined by John Raymond from South Wales, Kent’s R Swain, Scotland-based Currie European, and Jack Richards, whose head office is in East Anglia.
The company will be managed by its founder and MD Paul Smith. David Preston will combine his responsibilities as MD of Prestons with a board position in Harlequin Logistics.
Explaining the new venture, Preston said: “Prestons will continue to operate on a stand-alone basis for its existing customers, but will now also be able to compete for big national deals under the Harlequin umbrella.
“By adopting this collaborative approach, based on the combination of our regional strengths, we will all reduce empty mileage from our fleets, and share the commercial and environmental benefits across the board.”
